The San Francisco 49ers have added safety Vinnie Sunseri to their active roster after signing the former Alabama standout off their practice squad.
The 49ers lost starting free safety Eric Reid to a torn biceps during Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. San Francisco placed Reid on injured reserve, creating the roster vacancy that Sunseri filled.
Sunseri had been a member of the San Francisco practice squad since Nov. 1, signing with the 49ers after being released from the New England Patriots' practice squad on Oct. 24.
Sunseri was an Under Armour All-American and the AHSAA Class 6A Lineman of the Year in 2010 at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa.
