Houston had put runners in scoring position all night against the University of Alabama. Through eight innings, Alabama's pitching and defense had allowed it to escape.
But the Crimson Tide couldn't escape Cougar first baseman Joe Davis.
Davis doubled to left center in the top of the ninth inning to score the go-ahead run for Houston in a 3-1 win over Alabama on Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
"We've pitched and played defense all year," UA head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "I think that's going to be a strength of ours.
