In the end, though, former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden explained why he gave the advantage to Alabama, but picked Clemson to win the College Football Playoff semifinal on Jan. 1 at the Sugar Bowl.
Bowden joined me and Lee Shirvanian on Thursday during "The Opening Kickoff" on WNSP-FM 105.5 to discuss the meeting between Nick Saban's Crimson Tide and Dabo Swinney's Tigers.
So, where does Alabama get the edge?
"I think the top 11 are very similar on both sides of the ball," Bowden said.
