The 1992 Iron Bowl was played on Thanksgiving Day at Legion Field in Birmingham.

Alabama entered the game 10-0 and ranked No. 2 nationally, a national championship in its sites. Auburn was playing out the string at 5-5.

The night before the game, the big news broke. Auburn head coach Pat Dye, under fire due to an NCAA case involving former player Eric Ramsey, announced his resignation.
