The rapport between Tanner wideout C.J. Yarbrough and quarterback Chadarius Townsend paid big dividends on Friday as the fourth-ranked Rattlers put away Sulligent 42-14 in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Yarbrough and Townsend, who grew up playing youth sports together, staked Tanner to a 14-0 with two early TD passes – a 40-yarder on the game’s third play and 75-yarder.
Sulligent (6-5) made it 14-7 on Xavier Broyles 90-yard kickoff return return, but Tanner easily extended its win streak to six games. The Rattlers (8-3) reeled off 28 unanswered points for a 42-7 halftime lead on touchdown runs of 47, 8 and 67 yards from Townsend and a 27-yard TD run by Kristian Lampkin.
