The SEC championship game is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend, and no figure in the early days of the game was more recognizable than Florida coach Steve Spurrier.
Spurrier, former Alabama coach Gene Stallings and former SEC commissioner Roy Kramer will participate in the ceremonial coin toss before Saturday's kickoff at the Georgia Dome. Like old times, Florida and Alabama are competing for the league's crown.
We caught up with Spurrier this week and asked him 20 good questions about his rivalry with Alabama, present-day college football and, of course, his iconic East Tennessee accent. A Heisman winner before his coaching career, Spurrier was smart and brash and just what the SEC needed at a time when the sport of college football was first melding with cable television and changing forever.
