Smart ready ‘to get after it’

“When he was a little boy he had a knack of understanding how games worked and what it took to be successful,” said the elder Smart, a successful high school football coach in Georgia. “I didn’t know when. But I knew it would happen.”

Monday was the day, when Kirby Smart’s dreams — and those of his father — came true when he was introduced as Georgia’s new coach.

“My goal was to be a head coach, but I never dreamed that this opportunity would come,” said Smart, who played at Georgia for Ray Goff and Jim Donnan in the 1990s.
