Alabama and Georgia will square off in the CFP championship game at 7 p.m. CST Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The all-SEC finale to the 2017 season assures the conference of earning another national title. It will be the SEC's second crown in the four seasons that the College Football Playoff has decided the top team. Before that, the BCS tried to match the two best teams in a national-championship game from 1998 through 2013. The playoff efforts added another layer to what are considered the four major national-championship poll selectors -- The Associated Press, which started its rankings in 1936; the coaches, started by United Press in 1950; the Football Writers Association of America, started in 1954; and the National Football Foundation, started in 1959.
