Rice has hired Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren as its head football coach, according to multiple reports.
The 40-year-old Bloomgren got his coaching start as a graduate assistant at Alabama, working under both Mike DuBose and Dennis Franchione from 1999-2002. He has also coached at Catawba, Delta State and with the NFL's New York Jets.
Bloomgren had been at Stanford since 2011, the last four seasons as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He grew up in Tallahassee, Fla., and graduated from Florida State, where he was a student assistant coach.
