University of Alabama baseball coach Mitch Gaspard said before the season that he wasn't sure who would win the competition at a handful of positions. After this weekend, at least one position is still wide open.
Three different players started in left during the three-game series for the Crimson Tide. Freshman Gene Wood started the season opener on Friday and batted leadoff, while junior Hunter Webb started on Saturday and hit ninth. Keith Holcombe, who joined the baseball program this spring after focusing on playing linebacker for the football team during his first full year on campus, started the series finale on Sunday.
