George was a talented quarterback who couldn’t win in the NFL. So if you coached him, you were doomed to failure.
Years later, I heard the same reference to Michael Vick, another talented quarterback whose career – after a promising start — went south in a hurry.
I have identified another coach-killer: Nick Saban.
But that is a compliment.
Saban arrived in the SEC in 2000 and revived LSU’s stumbling program. The Tigers had eight losing records in 11 seasons – including six in a row – before Saban turned TigerTown into a mini-version of TitleTown.
