“The guy that wins the quarterback job is going to be the guy that wins the team over with his ability to play on a consistent basis,” Saban told reporters in a post-practice news conference. “Make the kind of choices, decisions and show the kind of leadership to affect other people. This is something that everybody in the group needs to work on.”
The competition at the moment is between junior Cooper Bateman, redshirt freshman Blake Barnett, sophomore David Cornwell and true freshman early enrollee Jalen Hurts. The most experienced quarterback is Bateman; he played in seven games last season and made one start, against Ole Miss.
