The Maurice Smith saga involving his desire to transfer from the University of Alabama football program to Georgia as a graduate transfer was again a topic of conversation both locally, regionally and nationally Thursday afternoon as UA’s decision to stand by the SEC rule engendered passionate opinions on both sides of the issue.
Smith, who is set to graduate Saturday with an undergraduate degree, has made known his desire to transfer to Georgia to play for Kirby Smart, his former defensive coordinator at UA, and Mel Tucker, his former position coach. Alabama’s position is clear: it wants to abide by the conference rule.
