Two years later, graduate transfer rules are once again a hot topic around the SEC.
That's a product of our recent report that Alabama is blocking offensive lineman Brandon Kennedy from leaving for another SEC school as a graduate transfer, like what happened with Maurice Smith in 2016 before Alabama and the SEC ultimately decided to allow Smith to leave the Crimson Tide for Georgia.
Though neither was asked specifically about Kennedy, Alabama's Nick Saban and Auburn's Gus Malzahn were both asked on Wednesday about SEC coaches blocking graduates from transferring within the conference.
"We have an SEC rule about do we want to have free agency within our conference, and I think there's certain circumstances and situations where it may be better for the student-athlete," Saban said.
