Southern Baptist Convention Messengers will consider cracking down on sexual abuse and racism, as the Executive Committee advanced two measures to combat churches who violate proper standards of behavior. Messengers will consider a change to the SBC Constitution to specify sex abuse and racism are grounds for disassociation from the Southern Baptist Convention. Messengers will also consider giving the Credential Committee power to determine if a church has violated doctrinal standards on issues like sex abuse and racism.
Southern Baptist Convention president J.D. Greear said the Southern Baptist Convention is at a “defining moment.” You can read more details and quotes about the Executive Committee’s proposed constitutional amendments and process for messenger approval here from Baptist Press.
