Fifty years ago today, Bart Starr led the Green Bay Packers to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the game that came to be known as Super Bowl I. Starr played for Sidney Lanier High in Montgomery and the Alabama Crimson Tide before reaching the NFL, and he was one of eight players with Alabama football roots in the first Super Bowl. That’s defensive end Chuck Hurston (85) from Auburn rushing Starr on Jan. 15, 1967.
The AFL-NFL World Championship Game was played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 15, 1967. A crowd of 61,946 – about two-thirds capacity – turned out to watch the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.
