Million Dollar Men: Assistant coaches are making more money than ever before

Georgia wasn’t the first school to court Kirby Smart. The University of Alabama defensive coordinator has had opportunities elsewhere during his eight years with the Crimson Tide. Other schools have tried to lure him away as their coordinator or head coach.

Smart has had offers. Alabama has always made him a better one.

It took a six-year, $3.75 million deal to be head coach at his alma mater for Smart to finally leave Tuscaloosa. He’s been at the forefront of a new era for assistant coaches in college football during his time at Alabama.
