Mikey White leads four area MLB draftees

Mikey White was a name coming out of Spain Park High School in the Birmingham area, earning Mr. Baseball honors as the state’s top prep player. He spurned his chance at the majors to play baseball for the University of Alabama instead.

Three years later, White’s decision was rewarded as the junior short stop was chosen with the 63rd overall pick by the Oakland Athletics of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

White was one of four players from the West Alabama area to be selected during the first two days of the draft, joining Alabama sophomore outfielder Casey Hughston, Alabama left-handed pitcher Taylor Guilbeau and West Alabama pitcher/first baseman Tanner Rainey.
