ARLINGTON, Texas — Alabama’s Derrick Henry has rushed for 1,986 yards, breaking the SEC single-season rushing record that had been held by Georgia’s Herschel Walker for 34 years. In the Crimson Tide’s final two games, against Auburn and Florida, Henry carried the ball 90 times. Alabama won the SEC championship. Henry won the Heisman Trophy.
Given all that, you would assume that Henry is the heart of Alabama’s offense. But you would be wrong.
Says who? Says Henry.
The heart — and soul — of the offense, Henry insists, is center Ryan Kelly.
“He has to make sure everybody (on the offensive line) has the right calls,” Henry told AL.
