TORONTO, Canada | University of Alabama softball player Haylie McCleney drove in two runs and former UA player Jaclyn Traina came out of the bullpen for the save as the U.S. national team defeated Puerto Rico, 9-2, in six innings to open play in the Pan Am Games on Sunday.
McCleney went 1-for-2 with one hit and drawing one walk, scoring two runs. The U.S. led 4-2 going into the sixth inning when McCleney drove in a pair of runs to ignite a five-run outburst that put the game away.
Traina pitched 12⁄3 innings of no-hit ball, striking out two with no walks, for the save.
