The talented cornerback wore No. 34 throughout the offseason and in preseason games. McKinstry announced his decision to change his number via Instagram, switching to No. 14. He came to the Crimson Tide as a five-star athlete in the 2021 recruiting class from Pinson (Ala.) Valley High School. A Birmingham native, McKinstry grew into one of the best defenders in the Southeastern Conference, earning first-team All-SEC twice in 2022 and 2023.
