The college football world got some sad news today, as iconic play-by-play man Keith Jackson passed away at the age of 89.
Jackson had perhaps the most recognizable voice of any broadcaster in the sport. He is known for his famous favorite catchphrase, “Whoa, Nellie!” and his unique enunciation is still mimicked by fans, particularly the way he said “Al-a-bamaaaaa.” He carried many Alabama games, routinely working the Iron Bowl and also 16 Sugar Bowls, many of which featured the Tide.
Below are a few of his famous Alabama calls. RIP, Keith.
