Of the things to watch in 2019, backup quarterback is going to be huge. The way that Tua Tagovailoa plays necessarily opens himself up for knicks and dings. If history is an indication, at some point the Tide will need to rely on the No. 2 man on the depth chart. And, it appears that Mac Jones has the inside track over Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa...for now:
Jones doesn’t automatically have the back-up job. Among the other candidates are two true freshmen, Tua’s brother Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson.
