Joe Namath weighs in on NFL protests during national anthem

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath said standing during the national anthem has "always been the right thing to do." But he also said he understands what initially triggered former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick not to do so during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before NFL games.

During an appearance on the "FOX and Friends" television program on Tuesday, Namath said he thought that reason had gotten lost in the current debate over NFL players who have followed Kaepernick in not standing during the national anthem.

"I think there's been a somewhat of a disappointment with a lot of folks on how our country's been looked at, how our flag has been treated with respect," Namath said.
