The Detroit Lions finished last in the NFL in rushing last season. They drafted SEC rushing leader Kerryon Johnson from Auburn and signed two-time 1,000-yard rusher LeGarrette Blount in the offseason to try to eliminate that shortcoming.
The Lions still had the problem, though, in the first game of the 2018 season. Detroit had only 39 yards on 15 rushing attempts in a 48-17 loss to the New York Jets.
The Jets-Lions game was the first of two played on Monday night to cap Week 1 of the NFL's 99th season.
