Among the advanced metrics and formulas that famed college basketball analyst Ken Pomeroy uses to evaluate and rank college basketball teams, one category immediately stands out because of its simplicity.
Luck.
It's not an attempt to measure how many times a team has had a player fall down and bounce a 3-pointer off an opponent's head. In simple terms -- and this is a huge oversimplification -- it's an indication of which teams have a better record than their overall statistics, everything from defensive tempo to shooting percentage and more, would suggest they would have.
