Alabama hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt on the field in 33 years. To keep a 21-game winning streak going Saturday, the Tide can learn from what went wrong in its last setback.
Interceptions. Drops. Late-game breakdowns.
They’re all a part of Alabama’s last loss to the Commodores, a 30-21 homecoming loss on September 29, 1984. That game is just one of the reasons why thousands of Crimson Tide fans have tried to block out memories of Ray Perkins’ tenure in Tuscaloosa.
Could it happen again Saturday? Not the same way, of course: Nobody is confusing Nick Saban with Perkins (despite their mutual career-path connections to Bill Belichick), and this season’s Alabama squad undoubtedly is better than the 1984 team that started 1-4 and finished 5-6.
