NEW YORK | Derrick Henry Sr. and Jastacia Henry floated in and out of storefronts on Eighth Avenue early in the evening Saturday, dad clad in a crimson No. 2 jersey and the mom in a script ‘A’ crimson zip-up, soaking in a moment that must have seemed surreal just a couple of hours before their baby boy’s world changed.
Just a small-town couple in the big city, the Henrys seemed starstruck, much the same as many defenders must have left the field feeling after having failed to slow the 6-foot-3, 242-pound locomotive.
Derrick Henry wasn’t so much awarded the 2015 Heisman Trophy as he forcefully took it with a finish to the regular season that took him from an afterthought for college football’s biggest honor to the frontrunner.
