Like any athlete, Steven Gayle wants to win. Like every runner in Eugene, Ore., this week, Gayle is fast. If he wasn’t, he would not be at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Gayle, a junior at the University of Alabama, is seeded eighth in the 400 meters.
Alabama men’s and women’s track teams are sending 18 athletes in all, including three relay teams, to the national championship event, which begins today with men’s events.
“In each event, we’re going in with a mind set of winning, and the first thing right now is just going there ready,” Gayle said.
