Former University of Alabama softball players Kelly Kretschman and Mandy Burford are coming home for the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, but they’ll be doing so as coaches.
Burford is head coach of the Samford Bulldogs, who earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid by winning the Southern Conference. Samford will play Alabama, the national No. 6 seed, in the first round on Friday.
Kretschman is an assistant at Texas State. The four-time All-American led Alabama to its first World Series appearance in 2000 and still plays, winning Most Valuable Player honors in the National Pro Fastpitch league last season.
