In addition to having a former Alabama star running the ball, the new Birmingham pro football team will also have an ex-Crimson Tide star throwing passes.
Blake Sims told AL.com that he has signed with this Birmingham franchise within the new Alliance of American Football league and will play quarterback.
Sims, who threw for an Alabama school-record 3,487 yards in 2014, had been playing running back of late and spent time with two NFL teams as running back during the last few years -- the Atlanta Falcons (2016) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-17).
Signing with the Birmingham team will reunite Sims with some of his former Alabama teammates, including Trent Richardson, who told AL.
