With hundreds of players set to become free agents at 3 p.m. CST Thursday, NFL web sites are loaded with lists of the players who could be on the move. Often, guard Evan Mathis' name is listed. And a two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro would seem like a good addition to any team's offensive line.
But NFL general managers shouldn't bother calling Mathis. He'll tell them he's retired.
The former Homewood High School and Alabama Crimson Tide standout decided he'd had enough after an injury-shortened 2016 season with the Arizona Cardinals.
Mathis thought about retiring after capping the 2015 season with the Denver Broncos' victory in Super Bowl 50.
