When starting pitcher Nick Eicholtz stumbled, the University of Alabama offense couldn't provide enough support to back him up. Auburn beat Alabama 8-1 on Sunday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium to avoid a sweep.
Eicholtz had only had one start all season in which he gave up more than one earned run, but the Tigers hung two runs on the junior in the top of the first inning. That lead stretched to 5-0 in the third. The Alabama (27-21, 12-12 SEC) offense spent all afternoon playing catch-up but couldn't match Auburn (21-26, 8-16 SEC) after taking the first two games of the series.
