Defensive lineman Quinton Dial gets a new NFL team

Released by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, defensive lineman Quinton Dial signed with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday.

Dial had started 26 games over the past two seasons for the 49ers, and San Francisco signed the former Alabama standout to a three-year contract extension worth $12.7 million that could have kept him with the team through the 2019 season. But San Francisco changed coaches in the offseason, and the new staff brought in a new defense with a scheme that wasn't considered a good fit for Dial's strengths.

Dial's best fit was seen as a defensive end in a three-man line, but he also had played nose tackle for the 49ers.
