Crimson Tide freshman is a Payne to opposing lines

You won’t find Daron Payne’s name on any statistical leaders list. You probably don’t notice him on the field at all.

That’s the nature of his position.

But the talented jumbo true freshman defensive tackle/nose guard is making his mark.

Payne was certainly noticeable for his performance against Georgia, often taking on two blocks, freeing up his middle linebackers to make tackles to limit the Bulldogs’ powerful rushing attack.

Not only did Payne frequently stand up two Georgia offensive linemen, he stonewalled them, holding his ground and oftentimes pushed them back.
