Head coach Mitch Gaspard thought the reconstructed Sewell-Thomas Stadium might play as a hitter's park. Maryland proved him right on Saturday.
The Terrapins (1-1) launched three two-run homers in the top of the fourth inning against the University of Alabama (1-1) to beat the Crimson Tide 9-5.
"They put some good swings on some pitches," Gaspard said. "He fell behind on a couple guys. It's not that often you see three two-run homers in the same inning."
Alabama had taken an early 1-0 lead, but Maryland's rally in the fourth broke the game open.
