With its latest set of rankings Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff selection committee has set the stage for what could be the most controversial decision in its three-year history.
As expected, the top four teams were Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Washington. After losing in double-overtime at Ohio State, Michigan dropped from No. 3 to No. 5.
Alabama, Clemson and Washington are involved in conference championship games this week. Ohio State (11-1) does not play. No. 6 Wisconsin faces No. 7 Penn State in the Big Ten championship game.
Here is where it gets interesting: With a 3-1 mark against the top eight in the CFP rankings, it is safe to assume that Ohio State is locked into the playoffs.
