Contrary to report, Trent Richardson not headed to CFL

A report surfaced Tuesday that Trent Richardson is in the process of finalizing a deal with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.

That's no longer the case.

The former Alabama running back was planning on flying to Canada to finalize the deal, but has decided not to sign, Richardson told AL.com.

The reason, Richardson said, is because he would have had to sign a one-year contract with a team option for a second year, so he would have essentially been locked into playing two years in Canada if he did well.

That means the 27-year old Richardson, whose goal is to get back to the NFL, wouldn't have been able to sign with an NFL team until 2019.
