CECIL HURT: LSU's marching band decision hurts traditions

For the most part, this column is centered on the athletes who play college sports and the coaches who coach them. There are other important elements, participants and instructors who make the in-person experience of sports more than sitting in a sterile arena and watching the games. Especially in college football, the band, the cheerleaders, the majorettes, the flag corps are an important part of the pageantry. Halftime is usually busy for sports writers on deadline, but that doesn't mean the performances of all these young men and women aren't appreciated.

That's why it's disappointing that one Southeastern Conference school with a great game atmosphere is changing that, dramatically.
