Breaks go Alabama's way to beat UAB

A few feet to the right, and Hunter Webb's infield ground ball might have been an easy play for UAB second baseman Evan Peterson. Another second in the air, and Chandler Avant's triple might have instead been an easy out.

Webb's single and Avant's triple, both with two outs in the eighth inning, gave Alabama a 7-6 win over UAB at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Tuesday night. Avant drove in Webb to break a 6-6 tie and secure the win. Closer Thomas Burrows shut down the Blazers with three strikeouts in the ninth. It was a quiet ending to a game that had seesawed back and forth until swinging in Alabama's favor.
