TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban has dismissed transfer Charles Baldwin, the top-ranked junior-college player in ESPN's 2016 rankings, from the team for a violation of unspecified team rules, it was announced Thursday.
Baldwin transferred from ASA College in Brooklyn, New York. He was expected to compete for the starting job at right tackle.
Baldwin, believed to be the Tide's first scholarship player from Connecticut, chose the Crimson Tide over a number of top programs, including Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan State and Mississippi.
Alabama is seeking a replacement for right tackle Dominick Jackson.
