Wide receiver ArDarius Stewart has been placed on waivers, the New York Jets announced on Wednesday.
An NFL suspension caused Stewart to miss the first two games of the season, and the former Alabama standout rejoined the Jets on Monday.
New York had a two-day roster exemption for Stewart that ended at 3 p.m. CDT Wednesday. To keep Stewart, the Jets would have needed to release a player on their 53-man active roster to create a spot for the wide receiver. Instead, New York waived Stewart.
The NFL suspended Stewart for violating the league's Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances.
