It was about this time two years ago that the Maurice Smith saga was playing out in the SEC.
Smith, you'll remember, was a rising senior defensive back who graduated from Alabama in August 2016. However, he wanted to play his final college season at Georgia, where former Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was by then the head coach.
Trouble was, intra-conference transfers -- even for graduates -- were against SEC rules at the time. Alabama head coach Nick Saban said as much and fought Smith's transfer, but ultimately relented and allowed Smith to play for the Bulldogs.
