Alabama wide receiver T.J. Simmons will transfer to West Virginia, he announced Sunday on Twitter.
“Words are not enough to explain how thankful I am for having the opportunity to play for the University of Alabama,” Simmons wrote. “However, I am blessed to announce that I will be transferring to continue my football career at West Virginia University.”
The 6-foot-2, 202-pound Simmons, a true freshman last season, will have to sit out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Simmons, an early enrollee at Alabama in January 2016, played in 12 games last season, primarily on special teams.
