There is some mystery as to how the Hawk Squad came to be.
All that can be said for certain is that it is made up of a group of University of Alabama students who stand and flap their arms like the wings of birds when Crimson Tide softball player Andrea Hawkins comes up to bat.
Dustin Dalton, a graduate student from Fort Payne pursuing a degree in secondary education and a member of Hawkins' dedicated cheer team, said that the UA players actually started the trend.
