The University of Alabama softball team had to work overtime to take the first game in the best-of-three Tuscaloosa Super Regional on Friday night.
The Crimson Tide defeated Washington 2-1 in eight innings in front of a crowd of 2,841 at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (50-12) is one victory away from advancing to next week's Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Washington (39-14) has to beat Alabama twice today today stay alive.
The teams will play today at 4:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPN. A third game, if necessary, is set for 7:30 on ESPN2.
