Haylie McCleney wants to pitch.
The University of Alabama softball team's All-American center fielder has been lobbying pitching coach Stephanie VanBrakle all year: not in a game, but she wants to try it.
"Get a bullpen in here or there," McCleney said.
Why not? She can do everything else.
Witness Sunday's Tuscaloosa Regional finale, where McCleney powered the Crimson Tide to an 11-1 victory over Washington in front of a crowd of 1,597 at Rhoads Stadium.
All the junior from Morris did was hit two home runs and play flawless defense, even sprinting across the outfield to track down a ball in front of the far end of the scoreboard in deep left field.
