Alabama wrote in a statement Thursday that it will help former defensive back Maurice Smith transfer to a “non-SEC school.”
Smith, a junior who requested to transfer in June with Georgia as his preferred landing spot, reportedly has blocked the move because the Bulldogs are another SEC team. Alabama’s also explains questions as to why former wide receiver Chris Black was allowed to transfer to Missouri, another SEC school, this offseason.
“While it is understandable that questions are being asked about similarities regarding a situation involving another former football student-athlete transferring to an SEC institution, that instance occurred only because of unique circumstances.
