Alabama announced Thursday that it has promoted Ellis Ponder to take over as director of football operations.
Ponder served as Alabama’s associate director of football operations the past two seasons. He originally was hired in August 2015.
“The University of Alabama has always been very special to me and I am looking forward to my expanded role,” Ponder said in a statement. “Coach (Nick) Saban is the best in the nation at running a football program and I truly appreciate the opportunity and his trust in me to serve as the director of football operations.”
Before joining the Alabama football staff, Ponder spent four years with the Bruno Event Team in Birmingham, Alabama, where he helped manage a wide array of sporting events across the state.
