Alabama players earn top SEC honors

The University of Alabama became the first team to have players win both the top offensive and defensive awards Wednesday when the SEC announced conference football honors, and also claimed to top blocking and academic honors.

Running back Derrick Henry was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and linebacker Reggie Ragland garnered the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award, as voted by league coaches. Center Ryan Kelly won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy and was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

This marks the first time a team has claimed both offensive and defensive player-of-the-year honors since the awards were created in 2003.
